Jane is a consultant clinical neuropsychologist, author and educator with 20 years of experience in the assessment, management and research of cognitive dysfunction in adults and older adults.

Dr Jane LonieWorking closely with Michael Perkins (a lawyer, author and educator) of the Autonomy First group, Jane provides autonomy assessments and supported decision making methodologies helping clients, their family and business interests age well.

Jane has provided assessments and reports for over 3,500 patients. She has provided clinical and medico-legal consultancy for patients from Royal North Shore Hospital, Macquarie University Hospital Clinic and rooms in North Sydney and Mosman.

Her cases have ranged from early and differential dementia diagnosis, cognitive impairment, testamentary capacity, guardianship disputes, and financial management orders through to assessment of a person’s capacity to instruct, give evidence or appoint or revoke a power of attorney. Associated with this clinical and consultancy work, Jane has substantial experience in courts providing expert medico-legal opinion on legal capacity.

In her research and educator role she is the author of over 20 peer reviewed articles in the areas of dementia and capacity. Recent papers are published in the Elder Law Review and the Australian Bar Review.

Jane’s affiliations, qualifications and speaking engagements include:

  • Member of the Australian and British Psychological Societies and their respective specialist neuropsychology practice divisions.
  • Honors, Clinical Masters and PhD qualifications in the field of neuropsychology.
  • Being one of five SIRA appointed dispute resolution service providers in the field of clinical neuropsychology and an Expert Reviewer for the Health Care Complaints Commission.
  • Presenter at legal and medical symposia and continuing professional education for The College of Law, NSW Law Society, Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners, Australian Guardianship and Administration Council, BenchTV, BBC Radio 4, University of NSW Continuing Legal Education and Legalwise.
